KCG Spotlight: Kendal Richardson

kcgbc.jpg

We Won't Stop a song penned by Willie JUST B Shannon and Kendal Richardson to address the epidemic, HIV/AIDS, amongst youth 13-29, especially in the African American Community and people of color.

From the personal life of Kendal Richardson, who was infected at the age of 19 through oral sex, felt a need and calling to do something different and be creative to educate youths about being responsible for themselves.

"I believe that HIV/AIDS is the end result, if we could address other issues and other factors contributing to cause an individual not to be responsible or being put in situations beyond their control where transmission could occur" says Richardson.

Kendal Richardson, being a HIV/AIDS advocate with a relentless stance to save the souls, lives, destinies and purposes of the next generation because it wasn't done for him and he didn't have or know many people with the passion and love for kids, youths, teens and young adults as he did, locally or nationally when he started his journey of life, love, and the pursuit of joy.

Richardson had a unction to start a youth AIDS walk in 2006 because he wasn't seeing young people like him fighting and speaking up for the lives then and young people to come. Through heartache and pain birthed the walks and the chant, "We Won't Stop Til Everybody Knows That HIV is Killin' Folks." Of course we know that HIV is not killin' folks, but it's a great way of getting attention and open the door for education, motivation and mobilization.

Richardson then birthed out three things from the walk, first a non-profit organization, called The Grapevine HIV/AIDS Foundation Inc., whose mission is to educate youth, parents, pastors and community members concerning HIV/AIDS through social media and community involvement, the education. Secondly, the song along with Willie JUST B Shannon, We Won't Stop, the motivation and lastly partnerships with the community and young gifted people with an anointing to express their God given talents to share with people of all ages, especially their own, the mobilization.

Richardson asked for many years for different artists to help the vision grow in the area of music, after many attempts, no one answered the call when he wanted to but it was answered by the right person and at the right time, and that time is now, by a great father, husband, minister, artist and basketball fanatic by the name of Willie "JUST B" Shannon.

Richardson never understood why some people helped joined a fight that had so much stigma. So he asked JUST B why? Why did u write the song? and Shannon's response was, "My Aunt passed away from AIDS and I didn't say or doing anything about it, now, as I'm older and more mature, I feel like I can do something, a way to give back when I should have"

5 Phenomenal Brand Building Lessons From BOSS Women In Business

Cameka Smith (BOSS Network Founder) pictured with BOSS Entrepreneurs and attendees.

A recent project for Entrepreneurs in Atlanta, The Launch Summit: "Minority Women In Tech" presented by Cameka Smith and the BOSS Network was a force of it's own nature. It was one uniquely specialized to help minority women in tech. The program with the knowledge that less than 1% of minority women receive funding for their businesses, created a pitch competition that awarded 3 women with funding and support. In a partnership with Black Enterprise and Prudential the initiative was a success.

Women from all over the world, experts of different pedigrees attended and took the stage with tech and career wisdom to spare. It was an amazing experience to be apart of.

The BOSS Network's initiative that kicked 2017 into gear was so insightful and informative that I literally HAD to take notes. I left with a few gems which I'm sure upcoming and established business owners alike can appreciate. The BOSS Network was able to bring together an amazing league of minority women in tech who took over Atlanta, along with twitter.

Valuable business insights were shared from the likes of Katherine Finney, Angela Benton, Michelle Alcazar, Dawn Riggins, BOSS Influencer Alicia Bowens and many more career authorities.I was especially grateful for the online brand building session with the expansion of Oasis on the radar.

Here are a few gems I was able to glean:

  • Narrow down your niche to make it specific. "What will people come to you for?"
  • Understand your funnel. Your funnel is a visual representation of your client/customers journey. assess the people who are buying from you and how they got there. Panelist Emmelie DelaCruz spoke of tracking customers back to an article featured on a website with a popular blog.
  • Know your Metrics. "Metrics are the future."

  • Assess what you post online and exactly what type of posts people are responding to, as far as "likes".
  • "Consistency is very important in online branding".
  • The biggest ROI is your website.
  • Understand what SEO is and how it works. the key words from google are in part what help draw traffic to the website.
  • "Have strong technical people that are able to explain information to customers." - Insight from Panelist Maja Sly
  • "Treat your business as if it's a person, how are you in conversation with your brand." - Insight from Panelist Kelly Smith Beaty  featured on the BOSS Network's Instagram here.

I could go on, even though this was absolutely already a bit more than 5 lessons shared, the Launch Summit was also more powerful than expected and I learned so much. I'm definitely looking forward to the next BOSS Network event, which I'll be sure to post the date for.

Founder (Oasis Media) with some of the official BOSS Network crew.

Great appreciation to Cameka Smith, The BOSS Network and all of the BOSS panelists and attendees for a great experience. Oasis Media is honored to be affiliated and a new BOSS member, Hello!😊😊😊 For more insights and images from The Launch Summit: "Minority Women In Tech" visit Oasis Media's Facebook page. #GrillPork: 5 Tips For Cooking Pork Chops On The Grill Healthily As Possible

by: April D. Byrd

Pork is definitely a food we want to make sure is cooked all the way through when we're cooking it. Here are 5 Tips for making sure your pork chops are healthy and well cooked.

Make sure they're all the way done:
Use a meat thermometer. The recommended temperature for pork by the USDA is 145 degrees. Pork is pretty easy to dry out, so try not to go above 145 degrees by transferring it to a cooking board when it reaches 135. The heat within the chops will cook it the rest of the way.

Buy The Best:
When buying any type of meat or eggs etc. Make sure that you're getting the meat that was farmed raised on a healthy diet. You are what you eat.

Make sure to thaw them out if frozen:
For at least 30 minutes let the pork chops thaw out because if you don't they'll have a tendency to overcook. No one wants that.

Wait a few minutes:
Even though you might wanna dig in and get to the action of eating right away. wait about 10 minutes before you eat so that the juices in the meat can be redistributed into it. The best pork chops are juicy, tender pork chops!

Don't use too much salt:
Too much sodium on anything might not be all that good for you. Pork is already rich in flavor. No need to take it to the next level. Enjoy it's natural flavor by not putting to much seasoning on your chops.

Hope these tips come in handy!! Enjoy your summer grilling!!

Will Gabrielle Douglas Make Time For A Date?

Being a seventeen year old national Olympic superstar gymnast must lead to a very busy life and a hectic schedule. Scroll through your Facebook news feed and you'll probably see several events and announcements from the star, most recently her plans to attend Gospel artist Martha Munizzi's event Viva La Woman with her mom. Empowered is most certainly the best way to live. Will Gabby be empowered in all areas? Even love?

Most recently another "superstar" has been vying for Gabby's attention. YouTube sensation and Honor Graduate Leon Purvis noted for gaining attention from President Obama and hanging out with Justin Bieber is on his second petition for an evening with Gabby.

When Purvis initially asked Gabby to attend his senior prom with him, she "sadly" declined due to a scheduling conflict. Leon is back, more accomplished, and giving it another shot! From the looks of social media it looks like he's making much headway! Leon got a response from Gabby's mother promising to “see what she can do”. He also got a lead from Gabby herself on her favorite restaurant.

Since Gabby's initial rejection, Leon has not failed to do his homework or follow up for her attention. Purvis has seriously looked into the facts to know more about the life and perspective of the girl he admires. He has read Gabrielle's first book "Grace, Gold, and Glory" along with her latest project "Raising the Bar". Leon is persistent, he is convincing, has his facts straight, and he’s not giving up anytime soon.

Even with being an all-around Olympic Gold champion, having made history and that oh so killer Nike Commercial, even Gabby could use more good company, which Leon is suitable to provide.

The recent graduate took another shot at landing time with the gymnast he looks up to in his most recent video. Gabby promised to connect with Leon if she reached 800,000 followers on twitter, but still hasn't reached the goal yet. However, Doug still followed Purvis account back after her moms reply. Hopefully there will be no more scheduling conflicts, and these two superstars can go on a proper date. Leon is anxiously awaiting a reply, but now the world and all of social media want to know: Gabby Douglas, "Want to Go on a Date" with Leon Purvis?

We sure do hope so! Gabrielle tweets at: https://twitter.com/gabrielledoug
